Ceremonies to mark anniversary
NEW YORK (AP) -- A nation struggling to express the grief of losing thousands in airborne terror attacks will remember the first 102 minutes of that day mostly in silence, with few sounds other than bells, the roar of military jets and the recitation of victims' names.

Across the North Shore, dozens of National Guardsmen and women have sacrificed time with their families and friends to serve the nation's wartime needs at home and overseas. Statewide, 3,000 Guardsmen, or one in every three, have been activated since Sept. 11.

T.J. Nabbout shakes his head when asked if he had any bad experiences after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. "Obviously, everybody was concerned about what was going to happen," said Nabbout, a native of Lebanon who owns a gas station in Salem. "We never had any fear. We are in a neighborhood where we know everybody, and it is like a family."
Sept. 11 religious feelings were fleeting
In the days after the terrorist attacks hundreds of people sought solace in their local churches, synagogues and places of worship. Religious groups across the North Shore held vigils, and attendance at religious services seemed to increase.

He returned to Cantor Fitzgerald in New York City, where he spent some college days as an intern. He landed a job as a securities trader, assigned to the 104th floor of the World Trade Center.

LYNN -- Marjorie Ditullio has been to Ground Zero once already. She's not anxious to go back again. But as the mother of Don Ditullio, who died as a passenger on American Airlines Flight 11 along with his girlfriend, Janis Lasden, she feels an obligation to attend services for the Sept. 11 victims this week in New York City.
