Fabrics
and wall coverings to suit almost any taste
By The Associated Press Thank the printmakers' skills as you shop for fabrics and wallcoverings, many of them matching or coordinated: - An adaptation of a chinoiserie wallpaper found in the Blackwell vestibule at the Winterthur house museum in Winterthur, Del., is being marketed though Brunschwig & Fils. "China Fancy," a print with delicate sprigs of leaves, flowers, birds and butterflies, captures the handcolored, glazed appearance of the original 18th century woodblock design. - Bright, clear and simple designs in a modern Scandinavian style are offered by Finnish designer Kristiina Ratia in her "Kristiina" wallcoverings and fabrics via Motif Designs. She favors sunwashed gold and rust colorings done up in bold stripes, paisleys, florals and animal prints. - They're stripes, but they don't shout it. Tonal and textural stripes from Thibaut Wallcoverings are more subtle, suggesting fabrics like corduroys, silk, linen, moires, and tone-on-tone damasks. The collection, "Stripe Resource," can be found with coordinating borders in earth colors like celery and sage, butter yellow, blues, spice tones, red and burgundy. - From Waverly, look for fabrics and wallcoverings in the fresh botanical designs of its "Greenhouse" collection, like "Spring Fling," a blossom-filled vine printed on textured cotton; "Vacation," with tiny floral sprigs; "Picnic," a plaid that looks hand-painted; and "Midsummer," a large-scale garden print. The company also offers "Grandeur," an assortment of patterns evocative of the great houses of Europe, and the "Belgrave Square" line, with English elegance. For a touch of whimsical charm, consider "Two by Two," a series of patterns in bright or neutral palettes with geometrically rendered novelty patterns of fruit, flowers, trees, seashells and animals. - If you're tired of heavy drapes, you might choose window coverings in the translucent "Diamond Lace" pattern from Scotland, featured in the Lands' End Coming Home catalog. Matching tiebacks and valances can be ordered, too. Call 1 (800) 345-3696. |
