Thursday, July 2 - The annual Amesbury Days Heartbeat five-mile road race, 6:30 p.m., The Mill Restaurant, 23 Friend St. Cash awards to the top three men's and women's overall finishers with prizes to the top three men and women in each of six age group categories. The fees are $8 (pre-) and $10 (race day). Proceeds benefit the Amesbury High cross-country teams. For more information, or an application, call Mike Farmer at 388-3881.

Friday, July 10 - The 21st annual Pat Polletta Five-Miler, 6:15 p.m., The YWCA of Newburyport, Market Street. Fees are $8 (pre-) and $10 (after July 5). Proceeds benefit the health and fitness programs of the YWCA. Trophies and prizes will be presented to the top men's and women's overall finishers as well as to the top finishers nine age groups. Tuesday, July 28 - The 39th annual Yankee Homecoming 10-mile and three-mile road races, sponsored by the Newburyport Lions Club, at Newburyport High School. The 10-miler is the USATF New England Grand Prix Championship. More than $6,300 in prize money. Fees for the three-miler, at 6:30, are $7 (pre) and $9 (post). Fees for the 10-miler, at 6:40, are $12 (pre) and $15 (post). Saturday, Aug. 1 - The fourth annual Hampton Falls 5-mile road race and Kids Fun Runs at the Lincoln Akerman School. Five-miler begins at 8:30 a.m. The one-miler (ages 7-12) is at 8 a.m. and the two-miler (ages 13-19) is at 8:30. Prize money to the top three male and female finishers in the five-miler and prizes to the top three males and females in eight age group categories. Five-mile fees are $10 (pre) and $12 (race day) while one- and two-mile fees are $6 (pre) and $8 (race day). Proceeds benefit the improvement of technology and playground equipment at the school. Sunday, Aug. 2 - The eighth annual High Street Mile on Sunday, Aug. 2, 10 a.m. at Atkinson Common. Finish line just past Newburyport High School. Competition in five categories: Male/Female, ages 10-15; Male (5:30 pace or slower), ages 16-39; Male Master, ages 40-99; Female, ages 16-99; Male (5:30 pace or faster), ages 16-39. Pre-entry fees are $6 (no shirt) and $8 (with shirt) while race day fees are $7 (no shirt) and $10 (with shirt). Proceeds benefit the Newburyport High School cross-country and track programs. Friday, Aug. 7 - The Merrimac Old Home Days annual two-mile road race and fitness walk, plus half-mile fun run, 6 p.m., The Training Field, Church Street. Entry is free until race day. There will be a $3 fee on race day with registration from 4 to 5:45 p.m. Prizes to the men's and women's open winners and to the top finishers in five age groups.
