Nature centers

Science & Nature Center at New Hampshire Yankee: Route 1 (off I-95, exit 1) 1-800-338-7482. The center is New Hampshire's only hands-on energy, science and wildlife center. It offers educational fun for the whole family through interactive energy and environmental exhibits including a new "touch pool" that allows visitors to handle local marine life. The center also offers informative videos on a large screen in an air-conditioned auditorium, marine aquariums, a self-guided, salt marsh, eduactional nature trail, a visit to the plant's control room simulator, and outdoor picnicking. The center is open Mon.-Fri., 10 a.m.-4 p.m., year round. Other times by appointment. Admission is free. Wheelchair-accessible.

Seacoast Science Center at Odiorne State Park: Odiorne Point, Portsmouth, N.H., 603-436-8043. The recently expanded Seacoast Science Center, located within Odiorne, features exhibits relating to the natural and cultural history of the seacoast area, including an indoor tidepool and 1,000 gallon Gulf of Maine marine animal tank.
