46 High Road A Bed & Breakfast, 46 High Road. (Route 1A), 978-462-4664. This typical New England farmhouse has been in one family since 1863. The owner has lived in the house all of his life. A naturalist, he is familiar with the many waterways in the area. There are two rooms available for guests. One of the available rooms has a four-poster double bed for $90 per night, while the other room features a queen-sized bed for $95 per night. A “wicked good” complimentary breakfast is included. Blue (formerly Walton’s Ocean Front) 20 Fordham Way, Plum Island, 978-465-7171. Located on a beautiful sandy beach next to seven miles of deserted sand dunes and more than 4,000 acres of the wildlife refuge. The only hotel on Plum Island, it is just three miles from Newburyport. NEWBURYPORT

This charming bed and breakfast is located just one block from the downtown area and three blocks from the waterfront. A classic Federalist home built in 1803, the eight rooms are furnished with antiques and have private baths and air conditioning. There are formal gardens and common rooms. All guests have use of the library, music room, porch and terrace. Afternoon tea is also served. Pets allowed. Recommended for children 12 and over. Continental breakfast included.
