A Japanese touch at the North Shore Music Theater

The season begins with a British touch, June 1-20, with Lerner and Loewe's "My Fair Lady," the story of a Cockney, flower street girl who becomes a striking lady _ with a gentleman's tutoring.

Then June 29-July 18, there's a Japanese flavor with "The Mikado," Gilbert and Sullivan's satire about Victorian English politics set in a story about whimsical, wacky imaginary imperial Japan.

August 3-22, it's back to England with Blake Edwards' "Victor/Victoria," sophisticated musical story of a female impersonator who really is a woman.

September 7-26 we travel to a South American prison setting, with the seven Tony Award-winning play, "Kiss of the Spider Woman." The story is a serious yet humorous, musical approach to how people discover each other's differences and therefore learn from each other.

In the award-winning "The Secret Garden," playing Oct. 5-24, there's the story of a little girl who revitalizes a long-abandoned garden, simultaneously harvesting inspiration for her family and herself. Regular NSMT audiences will enjoy their longtime favorite star George Dvorsky in the lead.

In November 2-21 we return to America with the popular, longest-running Broadway show, "Grease," a feel-good, high-energy romp through adolescence during the 1950s.

The play season closes Dec. 3-23 with the theater's original rendition of "A Christmas Carol," whose longtime success is legendary among small-theatergoers.
