Points of interest on the North Shore
BEVERLY
1. Brackenbury Beach, off Brackenbury Lane and Hale Street, Route
127. Public ramp area and small beach open to the public. No lifeguards.
Dogs prohibited Memorial Day to Labor Day.
2. Dane Street Beach, Lothrop Street, off Route 127. Limited
on-street parking. Lifeguards, restrooms, bath house and kids play area.
Dogs prohibited Memorial Day to Labor Day.
3. Independence Park, Lothrop Street, just south of Dane Street
Beach. Open to the public. Limited on-street parking. No lifeguards. Dogs
prohibited Memorial Day to Labor Day.
4. Lynch Park, Ober Street, off Route 127. Parking $5 weekdays,
$10 weekends without resident sticker. Concession stand, play area, rose
garden, bath house with restrooms that are handicapped accessible. Woodbury,
Rice and Lynch beaches nearby. Dogs prohibited Memorial Day to Labor Day.
5. Obear Park, off Kernwood Avenue and Upland Road, on the Bass
River in the Ryal Side neighborhood. Play area. Parking is free. No
lifeguard.
6. Pleasant View Beach, Stone Street, on the Bass River in the
Goat Hill neighborhood. Limited parking. No play area and no lifeguard.
DANVERS
7. Sandy Beach, off River Street, on the Danvers River. Free
parking and restrooms. Starting June 22, lifeguards on duty three hours
before and after high tide. Play area. Call the Recreation Department for
more information about swimming lessons and other activities, at (978)
777-0001,Ext. 3024.
IPSWICH
8. Crane Beach, at the end of Argilla Road. Owned by The Trustees
of Reservations and open year-round from 8 a.m. to sunset. Non-resident
parking fee $9 weekdays and $15 weekends. Ipswich residents can apply for
a beach sticker through the town. Bath houses, lifeguards and refreshments
stands, outside showers as of Memorial Day. Dogs and horses not allowed
in the summer.
9. Pavilion Beach, at the end of Jeffrey's Neck Road. Limited
free parking. Lifeguard but no bath house or restrooms. Greenhead fly season
mid-July to mid-August. Dogs prohibited Memorial Day to Labor Day.
MANCHESTER
10. Black and White Beaches, on Ocean Street, off Route 127.
Parking only for residents.
11. Singing Beach, at the end of Beach Street. Parking at beach
for residents only, but non-residents can park, for a fee, at Means parking
lot a half-mile away. Food and restrooms available. Lifeguard available
by mid-June.
12. Tuck's Point, Tuck's Point Road, off Bridge Street, Route
127. Bathrooms available.
MARBLEHEAD
13. Devereux Beach, on Ocean Avenue. Parking for non-residents
$5 weekdays and weekends. Lifeguards, restrooms and concession stand. Dogs
prohibited May through September. Annual parking stickers are available
to residents for $10 ($5 for senior citizens).
SALEM
14. Forest River Park, off Clifton Avenue. Two beaches plus salt-water
swimming pool. Parking free for residents and $6 for non-residents on weekdays.
Beach is closed to non-residents on weekends and holidays. Lifeguards,
restrooms, bath house and playground. Pool closed Mondays. Dogs prohibited
without a leash.
15. Salem Willows Park, off Fort Avenue. Two sandy beaches.
Free on-street parking, parking lot and restrooms, play area and concession
stands. Lifeguard on duty at high tide. Dogs prohibited without a leash.
16. Winter Island, Winter Island Road, off Fort Avenue. Facilities
for swimming, picnicking, scuba diving, wind surfing, camping, and more.
Bath house and lifeguard at high tide. Parking free for Salem residents,
$5 for non-residents. Boat launch $5 or $100 for the season; Scuba and
wind surfing no fee for residents, $6 for non-residents; RV camping $15,
with electricity $18. Tent camping for $15 a night. Call (978) 745-9430

Overnight parking, group and weekly rates available. Dogs prohibited
without a leash.
SWAMPSCOTT
17. King's Beach, Humphrey Street, Swampscott/Lynn. Public beach
with no lifeguard on duty. Beach parking limited to Swampscott residents.
Residents can obtain year-long $10 parking permits from the Recreation
Department office.
18. Fisherman's Beach, Humphrey Street, farther north. Fish house
and docks. Some swimming but no lifeguard. Some parking on Humphrey Street.
19. Whale's Beach and Eisman's Beach, both off Puritan
Road. Parking lot for residents near both beaches, accessible by Humphrey
Street. $10 resident parking permit needed from the Recreation Department
office. Both beaches have lifeguards.
20. Also Phillip's Beach and Preston Beach. For more information,
