Sidewalk sales abound on the North Shore

Merchants, artists and organizations in Beverly, Ipswich, Manchester-by-the-Sea and Salem bring their wares outdoors this season to offer bargains under the sun.

Beverly Chamber of Commerce sponsors its 65th annual Beverly Sidewalk Bazaar on Thursday, June 17; Friday, June 18; Saturday, June 19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. Some 60 local merchants and traveling vendors will set up shop on Cabot Street and on adjoining streets, selling crafts, jewelry, clothes, food, sand art. There will be live entertainment, too. Community, civic and social organizations will also host informational tables, along with other goodies.

Ipswich gets into the act a little later, with the Olde Ipswich Days arts and crafts fair on July 23, 24 and 25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine.

There will be a tempting assortment of food, from chowder to fried clams to homemade pastries. There is free parking, no admission charge. Artists and craftsmen will set up shop at South Village Green, Route 1A.

Manchester-by-the-Sea hosts an outdoor sale Saturday, July 31, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. Local downtown merchants move their goods onto the sidewalks for sale, along with other tables selling everything from crafts to original artwork to antiques.

There is entertainment also.

Salem's Destination Salem hosts Essex Street Fair, part of the city's week long Heritage Day celebration starting Aug. 8 through Aug. 15. Essex Street Fair is expected to be Aug. 14, probably from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. During the sidewalk sale, merchants and vendors set up booths along Essex Street and the surrounding streets.

In October, there also is Bazaar Bazaar, a sidewalk sale geared to Halloween activities and theme.
